  10. A FORGOTTEN SOUTHERN CLASSIC/DARK & JIGGY INSPIRATION: “YOUNG RICH & DANGEROUS” BY KRIS KROSS (1996)

2 years after da brat got funkdafied on ya’ll asses, some more smooth g-funk flavor comes out of the so so def/ruff house camp. the last kris kross album ever released—-young rich and dangerous saw chris kelly and chris smith at 16 and 17 years old talking about topics that many people at the time wasn’t ready to hear about from them. hence why i considered it a forgotten classic. they also linked up with another chris, chris terry for this album. now i have no idea who chris terry is/was but he is featured on a couple of the tracks on this album…the three chrises called themselves “the c-connection”. now from 1996 to 2012 this album IMO is their best and most complete….totally krossed out saw them as 12 and 13 year olds still riding the wave of their clean lyrical content yet still hardcore rap flavor and da bomb was a bit more “gangsta” which put a cringe on the face of alot of critics during that time. but i really feel like the songs and the flow of this “young rich and dangerous” album is what makes it a southern classic, also it’s heavy inspiration to the whole dark and jiggy aesthetic me and theblacktongue are about. i respect them for this album, althou i have been a kris kross fan since their 1st album (don’t judge me). i most recently found a link for this album, started listening and realized the shit they talked about on this album and the quality of the music was just waaayy too futuristic for it to have been respect back in 1996, i mean even me, a person who grew up as a kris kross fan was only 5 years old when this dropped…so i probably wouldn’t have even understood the content had i heard it when it originally dropped. so now being 21 years old and hearing smith and kelly talk about being young, rich and dangerous really solidifies a lot.

and with everyone as of late going back in the crates and digging up rare old school gems i felt it was only right to re-present to yall
